The Human Body – The most sophisticated machine known to man. From the skeletal system, which serves as a chassis, to the digestive system, which acts as a generator, the body is a mechanical marvel, an electrical wizard, a chemical cosmos.
It’s not surprising that man can construct complex, intricate machinery. He simply patterns them after his own human machine. But the human body controlled by the brain, the world’s most sophisticated computer, is far more versatile, flexible, and durable than any man-made machine.
However, for some odd reason, perhaps its human nature, many people don’t use that human machine to its maximum ability efficiency. They don’t have the time to balanced meals; they don’t have the energy to take on daily exercise programs. These people essentially live their lives in third gear.
The key lies in the maintenance. Just as you put oil in your car to keep the engine from burning up, you take liquids into your body to balance your temperature and avoid dehydration.
But maintenance of the body goes far beyond that. The ideal is to remain healthy and physically fit, and thus prevent disease.
When that is not possible, the goal becomes one of secondary prevention that is slowing the progression of an already present disease.
We’ll try to present the most up-to- date information on a variety of health and fitness topics, in hopes of assisting you in designing and practicing a personal wellness program. We believe that increasing the quality of your life through personal fitness is a given. Increasing the quantity of your years is a distinct possibility.
Yes, some problems are out your control, but can’t “call all of the shots.” But you own that body you call home.
